By and far, Sailor Scouts are some of the most cosplayed characters at conventions. Being an old favorite, it means there are tons of tutorials and accessories available online which makes it easy for anyone to make their own costume. When making my own Eternal Sailor outfit with my group, we used a lot of things available online such as patterns and accessories, so I wanted to share these resources with you!
Except for the lucky ones who live in a big city with a fashion district, we’ve all been in this situation where we just cannot find the right fabric for our next project locally. I’ve had to resort to shopping online for fabric more times than I care to count and the experience hasn’t always been free of frustration. Very often I need to see a swatch before committing to buy full yards of fabric and I like not to be robbed blind because of outrageous shipping fees. $39 to ship 2 yards of spandex to Canada? No thanks, Spandex World. So here is my list of good and bad online fabric stores with any useful info I could provide.
A while back, Pinky Paradise had a buy 2 get 1 free promotion on lenses. You couldn’t decide what free lenses you were going to get and I ended up receiving the beautiful G&G Shinny Violet aka Puffy 3 Tone lenses. I only ever owned another pair of purple/violet lenses which were the EOS Adult Violet that I don’t have anymore so these are a nice replacement.
If you have read a few of the makeup posts on this blog, you’ve probably noticed that we believe makeup for cosplay is very important and that we invest a bit of time and money in it. Truth is, I’m not the best one at makeup (it’s a work in progress) and for my Snow White cosplay I decided to go to my local MAC Cosmetics store to have one of the makeup artists there create a look for me. As long as you purchase $50 worth of products during your visit this service is free. If your budget allows it, I suggest you give it a try!
The Super Size Nudy Red from Geo are large lenses that look burgundy on dark eyes despite being bright red in the vial. They’re not opaque so your own eye colour will affect the way these lenses look.
