You’d think it would be simple to find a cruelty-free mascara. Personally, I’m not difficult as far as mascara goes. For the longest time, I just bought whichever brand was on sale at the pharmacy when I needed a new one. I tried high end brands for a little while but saw little difference in how my lashes looked – and a big one in how much it cost me. I never really had a bad mascara experience.
When I decided to switch over to cruelty-free brands, I figured it would be easy as pie and I could just grab whatever mascara I first came upon and be done. Little did I know of THE HORRORS OF CRUELTY-FREE MASCARAS that awaited me. *Cue womanly scream of terror* Little did I know…
After a disappointing experience trying to find a cruelty-free foundation online, where I thought there would be more variety, I decided to focus on brands I could find in person.
Ever since I learned that MAC Cosmetics is no longer cruelty-free (jerks), I have been on a Quest to find a cruelty-free foundation to replace what I had been using. I started looking into cruelty-free foundation brands and Face Atelier was the one that came up the most, usually along with raving reviews.
If you have read a few of the makeup posts on this blog, you’ve probably noticed that we believe makeup for cosplay is very important and that we invest a bit of time and money in it. Truth is, I’m not the best one at makeup (it’s a work in progress) and for my Snow White cosplay I decided to go to my local MAC Cosmetics store to have one of the makeup artists there create a look for me. As long as you purchase $50 worth of products during your visit this service is free. If your budget allows it, I suggest you give it a try!

Having a shine-free face is one of my main concerns in daily life and also in cosplay. I hate looking oily (who doesn’t) and having shiny spots on your t-zone can ruin any good cosplay photo. The HD Microfinish Powder from Make Up For Ever has been keeping my skin matte since I started using it a few months ago and I love it. It makes my skin look like satin! I also always apply a generous amount of it on my face and neck when I cosplay. That’s why I was horrified when I came across pictures of celebrities with awful cases of makeup malfunction which were attributed to this product.
